#blog – eco trips worldwide, protection of maritime wildlife and animal conservation

Our planet is way too small to feed all humans with their different needs, wishes and expectations!
We are still exploiting our beautiful planet earth to the maximum.

We all hear about environmental things, but the moment we hear them or read about them, we forget them and do not take care, as we always think, that it will have „no impact on me“. A fatal error and delusion!

Everything happens just right now, in this moment!!!

We face …

  • global warming
  • exploitation of fossil fuels
  • exploitation of nature
  • offshore drilling
  • deforestation of the rainforest
  • climate change
  • overpopulation
  • … please add yours …

Today I want to write some words about the efforts from an activist I became friends with, his name is Marc Zimmermann.
He is one of the people like myself caring about our environment, about nature, about animals and people and he knows about the coherencies of things happening in one place with the effects taking place somewhere else! We met during the #EmptyTheTanks worldwide protesting together for the dolphins and the closing of all dolphin facilities worldwide.
Since ever then we were in close contact and were exchanging ideas and experiences regarding animal welfare. Some short time ago, he decided to found a travel agency focused on sustainability for nature and the animals living in the respective countries.

For those who are interested in nature and wildlife traveling, I can highly recommend his experience and services.
Please take a look under yakari-travel.de

If you look at history, since ever humans entered the „stage of life“ imprisonment and enslavement was ever-present!
No matter if enslaving their own species starting in the middle ages or in the modern era, human mankind always tried to depress certain people, groups or other species in order to accomplish personal benefits and show dominance.

Why? I have no answer to this, as I am raised to live in harmony with other people, species and our environment and nature. There is no, „you“ or „me“ – it should always be a „we“ or „us“ with respect!

Well coming back to enslaving and depressing species, we were confronted with 2 tragic, senseless and unnecessary incidents in zoos. The first was a suicide in Santiago de Chile / Chile, where a man jumped into the lion´s enclosure and tried to commit suicide. The zoo staff decided to fire live rounds at the lions, killing one male and one female lion in the process. These 2 lions did not decide to be there and they had no choice as they were enslaved innocently and senselessly killed by this incident.

The second incident was  in the US at The Cincinnati Zoo, where a western lowland gorilla was shot and killed on Saturday after a 4-year-old boy slipped into the animal’s enclosure. The name of the Gorilla was Harambe, who didn’t ask to be confined, he didn’t ask to be put on display for humans to gawk at and he didn’t ask for an eternity of imprisonment, nor did he ever get a choice.

„The headlines are slandering Harambe, as if he ‚aggressively‘ attempted to kill the child. The video shows him carefully checking the child out, and then what appears to be actually protecting him from the crowds of screaming humans. If he wanted to kill the child, he would have. Harambe shouldn’t have lost his life, because he shouldn’t have been in a zoo in the first place. Zoos are disgusting, money-making machines that imprison animals against their will. No amount of enrichment can ever equate to a life of freedom for an animal.
Incidents like this wouldn’t happen if zoos didn’t exist. People wouldn’t justify imprisoning animals for conversation purposes if poaching didn’t exist. Poaching wouldn’t exist if ignorant, selfish and/or dumb consumers didn’t purchase animal and wildlife products. Stop consuming, stop supporting animal exploitation and stop being so selfish.“

Start reflecting about your daily behaviour, is it only a „me“ or a „we“ behaviour, you are living each day?!

There once was a British pop band who had lyrics saying „The world is my oyster“. The world is fortunately still existing, but it lies in ruins.

Our planet once provided us humans with everything we needed in abundance. There was enough clean water in the rivers for us to drink. There was clean water in our oceans to provide us with plenty of fish to eat. There were enough fruits in nature and berries in the woods we could collect to satisfy our hunger. There were animals to be hunted and feed our children!

Piece by piece this construct was destroyed by humans. Mother earth was not made for more than 7 billion people living on it, still growing. The industrial revolution brought progress to us, made things allegedly easier for us, yes. But on the other hand air pollution and water pollution started in a way we did not think about at that point of time.

Our once called „blue planet“ cannot handle this vast amount of people anymore! More and more people gaining financial prosperity, also in countries that once were called third world countries want to participate in this wealth. They want meat, with this the factory farming gets bigger and bigger and more perverted every day. Our oceans show more and more signs that they fight back, they are dirty and polluted.

Mother earth becomes destroyed every day a little bit more and it cannot be „repaired“ as the destruction is irretrievable! Animal species, plant species disappear, our poles melt away and with them again precious species will disappear soon from our planet!

It is all in our own hands, but humans seem only to react when it will be too late.

If you want change, be the change, every single one of you!

Start with something and help to stop the insanity …

… of Fukushima dumping radioactive contaminated water into our oceans

… of hunting precious animals such as lions, elephants, cheetahs, gorillas, just for fun

… of drive hunts for dolphinds and small whales in Taiji / Japan

… of hunting whales in the southern oceans by Japanese whale fleets

… of plastic waste every day

… of polluting our air, driving each and every distance by car

… of showing no more respect to life, environment and our all word

…TO BE COMPLETED BY EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!

LIFE IS ONE THING, MONEY CANNOT BUY!

Stoppt diesen Wahnsinn!

DO NOT BUY A TICKET!

Long time ago my wife Virginia told me to „invest in moments“ in life, discussing money, life in general, future life orientation etc. This was the best quote I ever heard in my life and I am very thankful for this! It was kind of an attitude change in my life! So from ever since, we started to avoid investments in static belongings, but more started to make sustainable trips learning even more about the world we are living in. I always used to travel a lot through the world visiting all continents and numerous countries, but from this point onwards something changed and I experienced the world differently.

So recently we travelled to Botswana and Zimbabwe, renting a 4×4 with a roof tent and had one of the greatest times of our life together. The silence especially in the morning and in the evening is breathtaking and clears up your mind&soul!

Watch some impressions of the wildlife we were a little part of for a short period of time …

Days as a Cove Guardian are usually very long days! You get up very early in the morning, as the hunting boats leave the harbour very early.
So you get up around 04:00, drive to Taiji and take your position at Taiji harbour. You see the killers walk by very very close, you all can imagine how you feel looking into their eyes and see them walking „to work“ as it is the most common thing in the world. Then they enter their boats by 2 killers and leave the harbour in order to find a pod they can chase into the killing cove, kill them and taking captives.
We all never understood why they all wear white rubber boots. They try not to look into our direction, but some of them do.

Every single day, you stay there, being chased by the police behind you and eyeball to eyeball with the killers … all you can do is showing the world how wrong this is and how Japan positions itself as a cruel nation not caring about wildlife, sustainability and animals.

Banger boats leaving Taiji harbour!

This video is the german support for the „Miracle March for Lolita“

Lolita is an Orca being captured from the wild in the early 70´s! Lolita has suffered in the same concrete tank at the Miami Seaquarium for close to 44 years. She lives a solitary life, performing in depressing daily shows for tourists. Her tank is the smallest for an Orca in North America, and despite being in violation of the Animal Welfare Act, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has yet to acknowledge these glaring discrepancies.

Lolita is almost the same age as I am, I could never ever imagine being enslaved and imprisoned in a broom closet, comparing my weight and size to her´s being in this way too small tank. This concrete tank she has to „live“ in now for 44 years is the best reason turning mad and commit suicide. Even this is not possible for her #FreeLolita!

Let us all try to #FreeLolita from these unacceptable conditions. Let us all be Lolita. These facilities have to be shut down, there is no place for them in 2015!

#EmptyTheTanks worldwide!

#FreeLolita
